In Your Face Racism

Published by garryblanson under Uncategorized

We often talk about racism and how we will react in different

racially charged situations.Well, yesterday I experienced, ” In Your

Face Racism.I was at the local mall with my kids waiting for the

ticket booth to open.(We had to stand outside a gate). While

waiting a white family also walked up to the gate. After about 10

minutes, they let up the gate. However, there was  misunderstanding

about who should get their tickets first.{you think that grown-ups

could of worked this out without resorting to making racially

charged statements, specially with the kids standing there}.

Nevertheless, the white male decided to bring up the whole

Jena ( the Jena 6 ) situation. He even went as far as to say

that he should of brought his rope with him.

I don’t know if it was the fact that I’m a Christian,if it was because

I knew that my kids were watching,or because I could tell how

childish this guy was acting.Whatever the reason,I looked at him

in disbelief, and then stepped up to the ticket counter and paid for

 our tickets.

After we left the mall,I discussed the situation;how the white man

reacted and how I reacted.I let them know that they have to be

ready to react positive to,”  In Your Face Racism.”

We can’t control what other people say or do.However,we can

control what we say,do,and most importantly;how we respond to

 what they say or do.

I believe we’re going to have to do like they did doing the Civil

Rights Movement.During that era,the people trained the people

how to react to the negative things that were said and done to

 them.

Yes,I know that racism is alive and well( I just experienced it

yesterday ).However, I refuse to let racism taint the way I feel

about my white friends and associates. And I have to teach my

kids to respect other races and our differences

Avery Johnson; Louisiana Legend

Published by garryblanson under Uncategorized

Well, last night’s lost to the New Orleans Hornets ended the

Dallas Mavericks hopes of winning the NBA championship.

Also, it prompted the Mavericks owner to fire the headcoach,

Avery Johnson.Although  Avery has won the coach of the year

award, and has been successful in getting his team to the playoffs

each year since he has been the headcoach ; the owner felt that it

was time for a change.

With all that being said,as a Lousianian,I would like to take this

time to express my sincere appreciation to Avery Johnson for

showing the world that even a small townboy(Avery Johnson),

 from a smalltown University(Southern University);can not only

play with the NBA best, but can coach with some of the best

as well.Avery is a perfect example of a little man with a very

 big heart.

The state of  Louisiana may not recognize Avery as a Legend.

However,at garryblanson.com,we already have made the

acknowledgement.Futhermore, if you are from Louisiana or

if you are a Southern University Jaguar Alumni member.Be sure

that you get the word out,and tell everyone that Avery Johnson

  is a Louisiana Legend.

Open .docx file without installing Office 2007

Today, I received a mail regarding requirements specifications of website. The mail had an attachment of file containing all the details. To my misfortune, the file was in .DOCX format and I had no Office 2007 in my laptop. I tried to open it using Office 2003 but failed. Not only I tried to mail it to my gmail so that I can view it online but Google didn’t fulfill my wish as it isn’t supporting .DOCX files yet. It was quite important for me to read the file and reply back soon so I had no other option than to search for the solution on net.

Well, I didn’t need to spend much time, I found out soon that we can open the .docx, .xlsx or .pptx file without installing Office 2007 and believe me its very easy. To do so, you just need to download Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats. Simply execute the exe file, install it and you will be able to open the .docx,.xlsx or .pptx file with your regular Office 2003. Once you open the file just save it as .doc, .xls or .ppt extension and it will be compatible to Office 2003.

Hhhmmm, I am done with converting the file and replying back the mail so thought to share with the poor guys who might end up with the same situation as I did.

Can You Hear Me Now ?

Published by garryblanson under Uncategorized

I recently came across some information on communication that helped me to
understand why we tend not to hear people the first time. The author stated that
in order to have communication there must be a sender, and there must be a receiver.
However, many times we are busy sending when we should be receiving. That’s why
we don’t always understand them the first time.
The best way to correct the problem is to develop the skill of listening(receiving).
In order to do this, you need to focus on the speaker(sender).Pay close attention to
what they have to say.Try not to anticipate what they are going to say, just listen.
It’s a matter of developing new habits and letting go of old habits. You see,it’s the
habit of not listening that we have to change.
Once you’re able to make this adjustment;you’ll get lesser,” Can You Hear Me Now?”
complaints.

Everybody close their eyes for 2 minutes and think of a time when

a week(or more),you should do this.Do it for 21 straight days and see
how much better you will view your life.
Happiness is a choice! So choose to be happy. When you get up in

Here’s a sample of what you’ll find at www.jollyjo.org

The elusive second shot at life, the fresh beginning that everyone, at some point, craves. During the trials and tribulations of life, through the mistakes, losses, failures, and hard knocks, people often reach out, hoping to grasp even a sliver of a better, or happier, existence. Some of these people never get a tight enough hold; others grab the bull by the horns.

What is it that makes these people different, more capable of attaining that second chance? They seem no different than all the rest-on the surface. Dig a little deeper and we find our answer.

Wash,Rinse,and Condition(ing)

Published by garryblanson under Uncategorized

While listening to a cd the thought,”wash ,rinse, and condition ran across my mind.

The cd talked about how you needed to change your thought patterns,in order

to get different results(wash). He also said;you need to watch your gestures, facial

expressions, and overall body language(rinse).People are always checking our body

language to see if they can see what we’re about. Most times this is done within the first

 90 seconds(a smile,a wave,or a handshake is good body language).

Next, you should be careful of the words you use and how you say them to

people(rinse). The same word used with  a different pitch or tone is interpreted and

received in a very different manner.

Once you have changed your thought patterns, watched your body language and

selection of words to use;you are ready to condition your mind, body, and mouth to

do the things that need to be done in order for you to win(conditioning).

Your mental state is everything! If you’re in the right mental state ,you’ll make

better decisions. The decisions you make today will chart your coarse for the next

10,20, or 30 years. So try to make well informed decisions.

Remember this ; patterns are habits and habits are patterns. Anything you do on a

daily basis, has a chance of becoming a habit(good or bad). You want to be engaged in

activities that are goal related. If they’re not goal related, try to schedule those events

 during non-working hours.Whatever you decide to do(good or bad),will become a part

 of your conditioning.

   ” Your condition doesn’t determine your outcome. However,your conditioning(mental,

physical, and spiritual) in most cases;will be the decisive factor.”

Are You Sewing Good Patterns?

Published by garryblanson under Uncategorized

Ok,first you need to get out your sewing materials. If you’re into sewing, you already know what they are.Next, look though the catalog and decide which pattern you want to use. Then, cut out your pattern and prepare it for layout. Now,get some material(fabric)and pins,so you can complete the layout. After you have completed doing the layout, get some scissors and go ahead and cut out the pattern pieces.
The reason for using the sewing good patterns topic is to illustrate the parallels of sewing good patterns to sowing good(behavior)patterns. In both cases, you have to be particular about the pattern(s)you choose. You also need to be careful when you layout your pattern(s).With the good (behavior pattern(s);you really need to watchout while you are cuttting the pattern(s).
Now,we are down to the most important part;the actual sewing(sowing).Just as the Bible teaches;whatever you sew(sow),that shall you also reap! The more I think about it,the more I’m convinced that people are the sum total of what they sow.You become whomever or whatever through the things you sow on a daily basis. [You don’t become anything overnight. How does a dentice becomes a dentice?By sowing(doing) dentist related work on a daily basis. How does an alcoholic becomes an alcoholic.By sowing(doing) alcoholic related thing on a daily basis. How did Michael Jordan,Julius(DR. J)Erving,Larry Bird,Jerry West, and Ervin(Magic)Johnson become great
basketball players?By sowing(doing) basketball related thing on a daily basis.
I guess that’s why we’re called the microwave generation. We want everything to happen in
10 or 15 minutes. When it doesn’t,we get all frustrated and bewildered. We should realize that
the Bible is true;what ever we sow,we shall also reap(it we faint not - don’t give up).For many
of us,the problem is that we fail to water the things that we have sown. You have to continually
water your dreams and your goals. You have to keep them in front of you daily. You have to
actively pursue them on a daily basis. You have to make them a “Must” !
Again I ask ; are you sewing(sowing) good (behavior)patterns.
- garry b

Thoughts to ponder :
You make decisions;your decisions shape your world.
You form habits(behavior patterns);your habits(behavior patterns)
turn around and form you.
Therefore, you become the things you do on a daily basis.
Whatever you want to become, whoever you want to be?
You are going to have to do things related to it,in order to become it.
Go ahead,Take Action,Do It Now!
