Especially in the work environment we either develop the skill or perish...sometimes we don't hear until we are handed the dreaded pink slip...

Recently I had my performance evaluation and my super noted that I was a good listener among other things. Listening is definitely a skill that requires some patience and willingness to try to understand the "sender". In my work place and church place you it's important to have good listening skills to hear what's being spoken and unspoken. This is a good post and I hope it helps someone.

Then there are those that do need hearing aids :)

An elderly gentleman had serious hearing problems for a number of years. He went to the doctor and the doctor was able to have him fitted for a set of hearing aids that allowed the gentleman to hear 100%.

The elderly gentleman went back in a month to the doctor and the doctor said, "Your hearing is perfect. Your family must be really pleased that you can hear again."

To which the gentleman said, "Oh, I haven't told my family yet. I just sit around and listen to the conversations. I've changed my will three times!"

I neeed to photocopy this and send it my mother. Can't email she refuses to get a computer :) But she woud really benefit from the lesson. She often says she has a one track mind but really, she is so busy thinking about what she is going to say next that often she ask what you just told her. It's very annoying. Most of the time she gets information wrong. She is an excellent sender, but a really bad receiver.
