Black History Month
It’s Black History Month and I’m
so glad thatwe still have books,
pictures,and videos to remind
us all how bad it use to be. No we
can’t brag about how far we have
come. However,we need to acknowledge
that there have been some advances.
Mybloglog in itself is proof of some
of the small steps we’ve made. Also,last
year’s superbowl(two black head-coaches)
shows us that we are moving forward.
However, when we look at our justice system
and civil rights as awhole.We must also admit ;
we’ve got a long ways to go.
The good news is that our dreams are not
dead.We have the power to make them a
reality.Will it be easy? NO! Will we haveto
make sacrifices along the way?Probably!
Will it be worth it?YES!
When I look back on the civil rights movement
of the sixties I am overwhelmed by how
committed the people were to the cause.
I look at the pictures and videos and think;
what pain and what labor they endured.
All so that you and I could have a better life.
Many of them didn’t live to see the old
Jim Crowe laws abolished.
{ They didn’t even live to get a chance to vote.}
Now it’s up to us to carry the torch.We have
to teach our children what the movement was
and is all about. It’s not about hate. It’s not
about races being better than other races.
It’s mainly about Justice and Equality for all people!
So as we celebrate Black History Month,
let us not forget the reasons why we’re celebrating.
As someone use to say,” Party with a purpose!”
Remember this: Those who don’t remember
the past,are destined to repeat it!
